Role title: Vice President, Financial Accounting, HBUK

In this role, you will:

End-to-end process ownership, management of preparation and assurance of all BAU reporting requirements (internal and external) including IFRS and Finrep financial statements (Annual Report & Accounts and Interim Report) and monthly/quarterly disclosure requirementsManagement of FA teams to produce timely, accurate and complete reports and commentary.Accountable for defining the PE close, reporting process, Balance Sheet reconciliation process and ensuring high quality delivery, as well as escalation, incident management, and stakeholder management around reporting.Responsible for the controls over the reporting processes and ensuring that control design is in line with HSBC's control framework and complies with all requirements (such as SOX).Review of the critical deliverables of the process in Period end close & Reporting.SME in closure of books per IFRSSupport the Leads in implementing Changes driven by Regulatory/New reporting requirements and also drive other projects which may come.Ensure that the outputs are of a high quality and prepared in accordance with internal policies and guidelines.Support the final sign-off of reporting and other accountable stakeholders.Drive development, review, and agreement of required operating model and control changes for the overall operating model and Finance roles and responsibilities within that.Develop and implement a robust operating model and controls plan and approach, including and monitoring key tasks and delivery milestones.Demonstrated strong stakeholder management skills and related experienceExcellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work collaborativelyStrong presentation and communication skills, ability to interface with internal and external groupsStrong analytical skills, ability to resolve simple and moderate issues quickly and accuratelyDemonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with technical and non-technical colleaguesExperience in database analysis/management, consumer and/or commercial data analysis/management or related database toolsResponsible for discovering and curating data sources, including creating data standards, developing data integration recommendations, assessing data quality and creating required transformationsProven track record of delivering Financial Reporting in a commercial business environment avoiding conflict & ensuring we meet our business needsWork with the In-country leads for driving the country/entity specific projects at GSC.Proactively manage and provide guidance to the FA Ops. team for managing and resolving process issues.Identify opportunities for process re-engineering / improvement and drive changes independently.Be responsible for the implementation of effective control/risk/compliance management mechanisms within/outside scope of responsibility

Leads and inspires the Financial Accounting team, developing a deep pool of accounting expertise, across all disciplines, with a commercial sense of continuous improvementPossess strong strategic vision and leadership skills.Drive change and projects through effective communication and influencing skills. The ability to mobilize others is critical.Strong communication and ability to interact with multiple employee levels/business partners, etc.Good negotiation & conflict management capabilities.Very good team handling skills with good management styles displaying acceptability and approachabilityManagement (planning and coordination) of the entire daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly reporting processesEmbed workflow tool to develop and monitor key metrics to enable 1) continuous management, and improvement, of efficient processes; and 2) provide facts to key stakeholders as requiredManagement of professional development of team personnelWork collaboratively across teams, covering Accounting Operations, Systems Support, IT, Financial Control, Insight & AdvisoryAdopt new ways of working such as Agile, particularly in respect of change activities, and encourage the adoption of new technology within the reporting teams.Ensuring Business contingency plan is documented, agreed with business partner and tested as per timelines

Operational Effectiveness & Control

Pro-active approach to process improvement and query resolutionTo continually reassess the operational risks inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.To implement the Group Compliance Policy by containing compliance risk in conjunction with the relevant compliance department. The term 'compliance' embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply

To be successful you will

CA/ICWA/MBA/CPA/ACCA with at least 15+ years or postgraduate with 18+ years of post-qualification experience in accounting and reporting.Experience of working in Banking/Financial services organization of repute will be an advantage.Well versed with Wholesale and Retail, Corporate and institutional - financial markets and liquidity products.Change Mind-set driving Automation, Stop & Simplify agenda.Ability to develop effective working relationships with business partners/customersAbility to bring analytical rigor, structure and solution to problematic areas.An excellent attention to detail.Experience of GL Accounting and Financial Reporting.Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.Is expected to have strong technical understanding of Accounting and Reporting principles with demonstrated competency in their application

Functional Knowledge

Strong written and oral communication skills in English.  Ability to communicate complex ideas (e.g. relating to reporting/adoption of policies) in a simple manner to country/global teamsExperience in accounting / financial, regulatory or management reporting.Understanding of control frameworks and how to implement effective controls in practice.Ability to deal with and analyze unstructured problems and queries and challenge existing procedures.Good understanding of Financial Planning and Analysis processes and how they impact reporting requirement, and more generically the banking and/or markets business, balance sheet and P&L.Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniorityUnderstanding and interest in how new technology may be leveraged to improve reporting processes and controls.
