Position Summary

Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training (MANET), a premier constituent college of MIT Art Design and Technology (MIT ADT) University, Pune, invites applications for the position of Accountant. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of the Academy, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and university standards.

The Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day financial record-keeping, reconciliation, reporting, and statutory compliance for MANET. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting software, particularly within the context of an educational and maritime training institution.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Record-Keeping:

2. Maintain and manage the General Ledger (GL), ensuring all financial transactions are accurately and timely recorded.

3. Prepare, analyze, and post Journal Entries for revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities.
4. Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor invoices and fee collections (student fees, hostel, mess, etc.).
5. Manage and reconcile Bank Accounts and Petty Cash transactions regularly.

2. Compliance and Reporting:

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including Balance Sheet, Income & Expenditure Statement, and Cash Flow Statement.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory regulations including TDS, GST, Income Tax, and other governmental filings relevant to educational trusts/institutions in India.
• Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions, preparing audit workpapers for internal and external auditors.

3. Budgeting and Control:

• Support the annual budget preparation process by gathering data, analyzing financial trends, and preparing projections.
• Monitor departmental expenditures against approved budgets and report on variances to management.
• Implement and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard university assets.

4. Liaison and Coordination:

• Interact with students and parents regarding fee structures and payment schedules.
• Coordinate with other departments (Admissions, Administration, Purchase) to ensure accurate and timely financial data exchange.
• Liaise with the central Finance & Accounts Office of MIT ADT University.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce (B.Com) is mandatory.
• A professional qualification such as M.Com, MBA (Finance), or CA Inter/ICWA Inter is preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive experience in accounting, preferably within a university, educational institution, or a large non-profit/trust organization.
• Proven experience with Tally ERP or similar accounting software and excellent proficiency in MS Excel.
• Knowledge of standard accounting principles (GAAP/Ind AS) and financial management practices in India.
