Position - Application Lab Chemist

Oriental Aromatics Ltd. manufactures fragrances and perfumes in India. Its custom designed fragrances are found in fine fragrances, incense sticks, candles, household cleaners, floor cleaners, and mosquitoes gels. The company also fragrances bar soaps, bath gels, shampoos, hair oils, laundry detergents, and fabric softeners in personal care and laundry care markets; and provides flavors for bakery, confectionary, beverages, chewing gums, and chocolate applications. It serves clients in and around the United States; and exports to various countries in Africa, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific, and Europe. The company was founded in 1955 and is based in Mumbai, India.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and apply fragrances in diverse formulation bases such as shampoos, body washes, detergents, fabric softeners, air fresheners, etc.
  • Conduct performance, stability, and compatibility testing of fragrances in final formulations.
  • Collaborate with fragrance development, evaluation, and marketing teams to deliver high-quality applications and samples.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment including pH meters, viscometers, mixers, and other analytical tools.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Maintain organized records of lab experiments and sample preparations.
  • Assist in developing new product prototypes for client presentations and internal evaluations.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Perfumery, or a related scientific field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a fragrance application or formulation laboratory preferred.
  • Basic understanding of fragrance chemistry and cosmetic/home care formulation science.
  • Strong olfactory sensitivity and genuine interest in fragrances.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory instruments such as viscometers, pH meters, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
