Are you a seasoned logistics professional with a proven track record in managing complex international supply chains?

Euler Motors, a pioneer in electric vehicle manufacturing, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Import/Export Logistics Manager to join our growing supply chain team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the seamless and efficient movement of components and materials across global borders, directly impacting our manufacturing operations.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

To ensure the seamless, cost-effective, and timely clearance and movement of all imported raw materials, components, machinery, and packaging from the port of entry to the manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for managing the complete import lifecycle, ensuring full compliance with Indian customs and trade regulations, and minimizing supply chain disruptions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. End-to-End Import Management:

  • Plan and execute the import process for shipments (by sea, air, and land).
  • Liaise with international suppliers and forwarders on shipment schedules, documentation, and packing.
  • Manage and coordinate with Freight Forwarders, Customs House Agents (CHAs), transporters, and port authorities.
  • Track shipments from the origin port until delivery at the plant and maintain a real-time tracker for management visibility.
  • Handle the processing of imports through various ports (e.g., JNPT, Mundra, Chennai, Krishnapatnam) and inland container depots (ICDs).

2. Customs Clearance & Regulatory Compliance (Most Critical):

  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of Bills of Entry and other documents to avoid demurrage and detention charges.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the 
    Indian Customs Act, FTP (Foreign Trade Policy), and EXIM Policy
    .
  • Classify goods accurately under the 
    Harmonized System Nomenclature (HSN)
     codes.
  • Determine the correct assessment of customs duty, IGST, and other levies (BCD, Social Welfare Surcharge, etc.).
  • Manage and process various duty-saving schemes beneficial for manufacturing:
  • Advance Authorization
     / Duty Free Import Authorization (DFIA)
  • Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG)
  • Manufacture and Other Operations in Warehouse (MOOWR) Regulations
  • Coordinate with the CHA for physical examination of cargo, assessments, and out-of-charge procedures.
  • Prepare and manage applications for end-use and other regulatory benefits.

3. Cost Management & Budgeting:

  • Negotiate competitive freight rates, customs brokerage fees, haulage, and other logistics costs.
  • Prepare and manage the annual import logistics budget.
  • Analyze and control demurrage, detention, and port charges.
  • Continuously identify and implement cost-saving opportunities (e.g., route optimization, volume consolidation, duty optimization).

4. Documentation & Record Keeping:

  • Scrutinize all import documents for accuracy 
    before
     shipment arrival: Supplier Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading/Airway Bill, Certificate of Origin, etc.
  • Ensure all records, including Bills of Entry, are properly filed and easily retrievable for internal and statutory audits.
  • Manage the application and renewal of necessary licenses and registrations for the company.

5. Stakeholder Management & Coordination:

  • Internal:
     Work closely with:
  • Procurement:
     To align import schedules with purchase orders.
  • Production Planning:
     To ensure material availability and avoid line stoppages.
  • Finance:
     For duty payment, accounting, and audit purposes.
  • Warehouse:
     For scheduling incoming goods and managing stock levels.
  • External:
     Manage relationships with:
  • Customs Authorities
  • Freight Forwarders & CHAs
  • Shipping Lines & Airlines
  • Port & Airport Authorities
  • Transporters

6. Risk Management & Problem Solving:

  • Proactively identify potential delays (port congestion, strikes, weather) and develop contingency plans.
  • Resolve any issues during customs clearance (e.g., first check, enhanced scrutiny, show-cause notices).
  • Handle claims against carriers for damages or losses (e.g., raising claims with shipping lines).

7. Process Improvement & Technology:

  • Implement and leverage technology (e.g., ERP SAP/Oracle, Trade Compliance software) to automate and track processes.
  • Develop and standardize SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the import function.
  • Drive digital initiatives like the ICEGATE portal for direct filing and tracking.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Clearance Time:
     Average time from shipment arrival to customs clearance.
  • Cost per Unit:
     Total import logistics cost per unit/ton/kg.
  • Demurrage & Detention:
     Amount spent on avoidable port charges.
  • On-Time In-Full (OTIF):
     Percentage of shipments delivered to the plant on time and complete.
  • Import Documentation Accuracy:
     Percentage of error-free submissions.
  • Compliance:
     Zero show-cause notices or penalties due to procedural lapses.

Typical Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, or international trade. A master's degree is a plus.
  • 8-12 years
     of proven experience in import logistics, specifically within the Indian manufacturing sector.
  • Indispensable:
     In-depth, practical knowledge of Indian Customs procedures, classification, valuation, and duty exemption schemes.
  • A strong existing network with CHAs, freight forwarders, and customs officials is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and the ICEGATE portal.
