Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced IMS Application Database Administrator (DBA) to join our mainframe support team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimization of IBM Information Management System (IMS) databases. This role ensures the availability, integrity, and security of mission-critical enterprise data within a mainframe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain IMS databases to support enterprise applications.
  • Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and space management.
  • Manage IMS database backup, recovery, and reorganization activities.
  • Troubleshoot IMS database issues and work closely with application and infrastructure teams.
  • Implement and maintain database security, integrity, and access controls.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support database changes, testing, and deployment.
  • Monitor and ensure high availability and reliability of IMS database systems.
  • Maintain documentation of database configurations, standards, and procedures.
  • Provide on-call support and ensure smooth operation during production and maintenance windows.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as an IMS Application DBA in a mainframe environment.
  • Strong experience in IMS database administration, database recovery, and reorganization utilities.
  • Hands-on experience with IMS control blocks (DBD, PSB, ACB) and IMS utilities.
  • Exposure to IMS/TM (Transaction Manager) will be an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of DB2 Application DBA activities (as a secondary skill).
  • Experience with performance tuning and debugging using IMS tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global support model.

Good to Have:

  • Knowledge of IMS modernization or migration projects.
  • Familiarity with tools like IBM OMEGAMON, BMC IMS utilities, or CA utilities.
  • Exposure to Agile and ITIL-based support environments.
