Role & responsibilities
The Plant Technician will operate, monitor, and maintain equipment in the SWCNT pilot plant to support process development, optimization, and scale-up activities. This role focuses on experimental trial execution, equipment readiness, and accurate data recording, enabling the process and mechanical engineers to validate and improve production methods before full-scale implementation. The technician will be part of the Scale-up team and will work closely with process engineers while coordinating with the central engineering and operations teams as needed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant Operations
- Set up and operate pilot-scale reactors, filtration systems, drying units, sorting equipment, and dispersion systems according to trial plans.
- Prepare raw materials, catalysts, and feedstock based on process requirements.
- Load, start-up, monitor, and shut down equipment following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
2. Data Recording & Reporting
- Record operational parameters (temperature, pressure, flow rates, yield, purity, energy consumption) accurately during trials.
- Identify and log anomalies or deviations from standard parameters.
- Provide trial logs and operational feedback to process engineers for analysis.
3. Equipment Maintenance & Readiness
- Perform routine checks, cleaning, and minor maintenance of pilot plant equipment.
- Report mechanical or instrumentation issues to the Process Mechanical Engineer.
- Ensure calibration of sensors, gauges, and meters is up to date.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all EHS guidelines for handling SWCNT and chemicals.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow nanoparticle exposure control measures.
- Assist in hazard assessments and participate in safety drills.
5. Trial Preparation & Support
- Assist in installing and setting up new pilot-scale equipment for testing.
- Help in preparing dispersions, membranes, or other application-specific trial samples.
- Support process modifications and reconfigurations between trials.
Preferred candidate profile
Education: Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering; Process Plant Maintenance, or similar.
- Work Experience: 1-2 years in plant, chemical process, or advanced material production environments.
- Preferred Backgrounds: Specialty chemicals, carbon materials, battery materials, filtration media
