Job Description – Purchase Manager

Position: Purchase Manager

Location: Bhubaneswar

Department: Procurement & Supply Chain

Reports To: Head – Operations / Director

Salary: 20,000/- to 30,000/-

Role Overview

The Purchase Manager is responsible for managing procurement activities, vendor development, cost optimization, and timely availability of materials, equipment, and services required for company operations and projects. The role ensures quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with company policies and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Sourcing

o Develop and implement effective procurement strategies for materials, consumables, and services.

o Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with reliable vendors and suppliers.

o Ensure procurement at optimum cost without compromising quality and delivery timelines.

  • Vendor Management

o Build and maintain strong vendor relationships.

o Conduct vendor assessments, audits, and performance reviews.

o Develop alternate vendor sources to mitigate supply risks.

  • Inventory & Material Management

o Coordinate with stores and project teams to plan purchase requirements.

o Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment.

o Implement just-in-time procurement practices to reduce excess inventory and costs.

  • Compliance & Documentation

o Ensure adherence to procurement policies, statutory regulations, and audit requirements.

o Maintain proper documentation of purchase orders, agreements, and contracts.

o Ensure GST, taxation, and statutory compliance in all purchases.

  • Cost & Budget Control

o Prepare and monitor procurement budgets.

o Track and analyze procurement costs, ensuring cost savings and process efficiency.

o Negotiate long-term contracts and price agreements with suppliers.

  • Cross-functional Coordination

o Work closely with project, engineering, and finance teams to align procurement with project timelines.

o Support project execution by ensuring timely availability of materials and services.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain, and vendor management.
  • Negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with cost optimization ability.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, ERP/SAP/Tally, and other procurement tools.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Commerce / Supply Chain / Business Management (MBA preferred).
  • 7–12 years of procurement experience (preferably in Solar / EPC / Engineering / Manufacturing industries).
  • Proven track record in vendor development, cost reduction, and process improvement.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
