Role & responsibilities : Pattern Shop Supervisor

Job Role:

• Supervise and manage all daily activities in the pattern shop, including pattern manufacturing, modification, storage, and maintenance.

• Plan and allocate manpower to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of production schedules.

• Ensure patterns are produced accurately as per engineering drawings, 3D models, and customer specifications.

• Oversee pattern mounting, alignment, and fitment to ensure compatibility with molding equipment.

• Implement a pattern checking system to prevent pattern breakdown, reduce rejection, and improve casting quality.

• Conduct visual and dimensional inspection of new and existing patterns using appropriate measuring tools.

• Review and approve sample patterns before trial or production.

• Coordinate with design, molding, machining, and quality departments to resolve patternrelated issues.

• Maintain complete documentation including pattern history, inspection reports, modification records, and pattern inventory.

• Ensure proper storage, identification, and handling of patterns to avoid damage or mixups.

• Supervise pattern makers, carpenters, CNC operators, and helpers, providing guidance and training.

• Monitor pattern repair, refurbishment, and preventive maintenance activities.

• Ensure availability of materials, tools, consumables, and equipment required for pattern shop operations.

• Maintain quality standards for sample products and ensure patterns meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.

• Enforce safety procedures and ensure proper use of PPE within the pattern shop.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pattern accuracy, reduce defects, and improve productivity.

• Communicate effectively with production teams to ensure patterns are delivered on time for molding and casting operations.

• Troubleshoot patternrelated issues and provide technical solutions to support smooth foundry operations.

Desired Profile:

• Diploma/ITI/Engineering in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Foundry Technology, or a related field.

• 410 years of experience in a pattern shop or tooling environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

• Strong knowledge of patternmaking processes, materials, shrinkage allowances, draft angles, and tooling standards.

• Handson experience with wooden, metallic, and CNCmachined patterns.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and casting specifications.

• Good understanding of molding processes and how patterns affect casting quality.

• Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to train and guide pattern shop staff.

• Good communication and coordination skills for crossdepartment interaction.

• Problemsolving mindset with attention to detail and a focus on reducing rework and rejection
