Job Summary

The Restaurant Hostess is the first and last point of contact for guests. She welcomes customers with warmth and professionalism, manages reservations and seating, and ensures guests have a pleasant dining experience from arrival to departure. This role requires excellent communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet guests promptly and courteously as they enter the restaurant.
  • Manage reservations through booking systems (e.g., OpenTable, Resy) or phone calls.
  • Maintain the waitlist and estimate accurate wait times for walk-in guests.
  • Escort guests to their tables and provide menus.
  • Coordinate seating arrangements with servers to ensure balanced workload.
  • Communicate special requests (e.g., allergies, celebrations, accessibility needs) to the appropriate staff.
  • Answer phones and assist with inquiries regarding menus, hours, or directions.
  • Monitor dining areas to ensure guest satisfaction and clean tables are available.
  • Thank guests and invite them to return upon departure.
  • Assist with administrative or service tasks (folding napkins, organizing menus, etc.) as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, professional, and polished appearance.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in busy service times.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, especially when managing reservations.
  • Basic knowledge of POS or reservation systems (training provided).
  • Strong customer service attitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player who collaborates well with servers, managers, and kitchen staff.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Previous customer service or hospitality experience a plus (not always required).
  • Training provided on restaurant policies, menu knowledge, and service standards.

Working Conditions

  • Work hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Requires a polished appearance and adherence to dress code.
