To lead the complete design function for Extra / High Voltage (EHV) power transformers, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with global standards. The role demands deep domain expertise across electrical and mechanical design, cross-functional collaboration, and innovation in transformer engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design

  • Lead electrical design of 400 to 765 kV class transformers including core, winding, insulation, tap changers, and bushings
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IS, ANSI, and IEEE standards
  • Optimize electrical parameters for efficiency, thermal performance, and dielectric strength
  • Interface with testing and quality teams for validation and troubleshooting

Mechanical Design

  • Oversee mechanical design of tanks, clamping structures, cooling systems, and accessories
  • Ensure structural integrity, vibration control, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with production for design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) initiatives
  • Validate mechanical drawings using FEA and CAD tools

Design Governance

  • Own the design database, BOMs, and drawing control systems
  • Implement design review protocols and change management processes
  • Ensure timely release of drawings and technical documentation for production and procurement

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Liaise with R&D, procurement, quality, and customer engineering teams
  • Support customer interactions for technical clarifications, approvals, and design customization
  • Participate in tender engineering and techno-commercial evaluations

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of electrical and mechanical design engineers
  • Drive skill development, innovation, and knowledge sharing
  • Foster a culture of precision, accountability, and continuous improvement

Desired Skills & Competencies

  • Strong command over transformer design principles and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, AutoCAD, Creo)
  • Familiarity with insulation coordination, thermal modelling, and short-circuit withstand design
  • Experience in handling customer specifications, approvals, and audits
  • Strategic mindset with ability to balance cost, performance, and manufacturability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Background

  • Prior leadership in transformer design teams for EHV/UHV class
  • Exposure to export projects, grid codes, and international client requirements
  • Experience in digital design systems and PLM platforms
