Job Summary: The Head of Purchase Department is responsible for leading the procurement activities across the organization, specifically within OEM, Engineering Goods Manufacturing, and Drilling Rigs Manufacturing sectors. This role involves developing and implementing strategic purchasing plans, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely acquisition of high-quality materials, including hydraulic items, steels, cutting tools, and heating elements. The position demands strong leadership in overseeing the procurement team, optimizing processes, and ensuring compliance with financial and operational goals. Reporting to the Finance Head or Plant Head, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in the purchase department within a similar industry, holding an engineering degree, and be proficient in ERP/SAP systems..

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Procurement:

  2. Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives.

  3. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, improved quality, and process optimization in the procurement process.
  4. Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, pricing, and supply chain dynamics.

  5. Supplier Management:

  6. Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.

  7. Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to secure the best value for the company.
  8. Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual agreements, quality standards, and delivery timelines.

  9. Materials Management:

  10. Oversee the procurement of engineering goods, including hydraulic items, various types of steels, cutting tools, and heating elements.

  11. Ensure the availability of materials to meet production schedules without incurring unnecessary costs or inventory buildup.
  12. Collaborate with the production and engineering departments to understand material requirements and specifications.

  13. Team Leadership:

  14. Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

  15. Set clear objectives, provide guidance, and conduct regular performance evaluations to ensure team members are aligned with departmental goals.

  16. Process Optimization:

  17. Continuously evaluate and improve purchasing processes to enhance efficiency and reduce lead times.

  18. Implement best practices in procurement, including the use of technology and automation where applicable.
  19. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.

  20. Budget and Cost Management:

  21. Develop and manage the procurement budget, ensuring alignment with financial goals.

  22. Monitor and control costs associated with procurement activities, including material costs, transportation, and storage.
  23. Provide regular reports to the Finance Head and Plant Head on procurement performance, cost savings, and budget adherence.

  24. Risk Management:

  25. Identify and mitigate risks associated with the supply chain, including supplier reliability, market volatility, and geopolitical factors.

  26. Develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions in the supply chain.

  27. Collaboration:

  28. Work closely with the Finance Department to ensure accurate forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning.

  29. Coordinate with the Plant Head and other department heads to align procurement activities with production schedules and operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field). A Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration is a plus.
  • Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience in the Purchase Department within an Engineering Goods Manufacturing Industry.
  • Technical Skills: Must be well-versed in hydraulic items, all kinds of steels, cutting tools, and heating elements.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead a team, manage cross-functional relationships, and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively and present to senior management.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with procurement software, ERP systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
