Job Title: Retail Merchandise Manager

Department: Merchandise / Retail Operations

Location: Mangalore

Reporting To: Management

Job Summary:

The Retail Merchandise Manager will be responsible for planning, selecting, and managing product assortments for the brand's retail outlets and online platforms. The role involves coordinating between the production, design, and sales teams to ensure timely delivery of collections, maintaining stock levels, analyzing sales performance, and aligning merchandise strategies with the company's goals in the activewear segment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Merchandise Planning & Buying

  2. Plan seasonal and monthly merchandise range based on market trends, sales history, and customer preferences.

  3. Coordinate with the design and production teams to develop collections suitable for retail.
  4. Finalize product categories, pricing, and quantity plans as per store requirements and target audience.
  5. Approve samples, colors, and fabric options in line with brand aesthetics and performance standards.

  6. Inventory & Stock Management

  7. Monitor stock movement and ensure optimal inventory levels across stores.

  8. Plan replenishments and transfers between stores based on sales performance.
  9. Review slow-moving and non-moving stock and coordinate clearance or discounting strategies.

  10. Sales & Performance Analysis

  11. Track sales data and prepare weekly/monthly performance reports by category, store, and style.

  12. Identify bestsellers and trends to inform future buying and production decisions.
  13. Work closely with store teams to achieve sales and margin targets.

  14. Coordination & Execution

  15. Liaise with the production and logistics departments to ensure timely delivery to stores.

  16. Coordinate with visual merchandising and marketing teams for product launches and promotions.
  17. Ensure all retail outlets follow proper display standards and brand guidelines.

  18. Vendor & Cost Management

  19. Coordinate with suppliers for accessories, packaging, and other merchandising requirements.

  20. Negotiate costs and manage margins to maintain profitability across categories.

  21. Market & Competitor Analysis

  22. Conduct regular market visits and competitor benchmarking to identify trends and opportunities.

  23. Recommend product improvements and new category introductions for the retail line.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of experience in merchandise management, preferably in activewear, sportswear, or fashion retail.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills with proficiency in Excel and ERP-based inventory systems.
  • Excellent coordination, negotiation, and team management skills.
  • Understanding of retail sales dynamics and consumer behaviour in the sportswear category.
