HR & Administration Manager Research Institute (JD)
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR policies suited to a research/academic setup
- Handle recruitment & hiring for faculty, researchers, technical staff, and admin staff
- Manage onboarding, joining formalities, and HR documentation
- Coordinate appointments for research fellows, JRF/SRF/RA, project staff, interns
- Maintain researcher & faculty records, service books, contracts, extensions
- Manage performance evaluation cycles for academic & research staff
- Support academic committees for approvals & HR workflows
- Handle employee engagement, grievance support, and institutional welfare
- Maintain attendance, leave system, HRMIS & personnel files
- Support institute events seminars, workshops, conferences, academic programs
- Facilitate visits of scientists, scholars, dignitaries, and academic guests
- Coordinate with finance for payroll inputs
- Manage vendors, office facilities, campus services, admin supplies
- Support procurement (lab supplies support coordination, not technical selection)
- Ensure compliance with institutional, HR, and statutory norms
- Maintain research institute governance documentation & reports
- Create HR processes from scratch in a startup-like environment
- Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and academic discipline
Experience Required
- 9-15 years in HR and Administration roles
- Experience in research institutes, universities, biotech research, labs, R&D centres, academic institutions
- Exposure to working with faculty, researchers & scientific talent
Skills
- Strong communication & academic etiquette
- HR policy drafting and implementation
- Recruitment for technical/scientific profiles
- Documentation, compliance & institutional record keeping
- Vendor & facility coordination
- Calm, ethical, and structured working style
- Ability to multitask and build processes from zero
Qualification
- MBA/PGDM in HR / Masters in Administration or equivalent
