Profile Description:

The Senior Coding Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple coding teams and ensuring seamless delivery of high-quality medical coding services. This role demands strategic leadership, client relationship management, and operational excellence to meet and exceed productivity, quality, and SLA expectations. The Senior Coding Manager works closely with Portfolio Leaders and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, talent development, and process optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

Process & Operational Management:

  • Lead day-to-day operations across multiple coding teams, including planning, resource allocation, and workflow management.
  • Ensure adherence to client SLAs for turnaround times (TAT), volumes, and quality benchmarks across all accounts managed.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on productivity and quality metrics, driving initiatives to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Partner with internal teams such as Quality, Training, and Recruitment to maintain and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Own and update process SOPs, ensuring alignment with client requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Lead or support client escalations, resolving issues proactively and maintaining strong client satisfaction.

People Leadership:

  • Manage and mentor Coding Managers and team leads, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high engagement.
  • Drive talent development by overseeing training programs, career path planning, and performance appraisals at multiple levels.
  • Monitor people metrics including attrition, absenteeism, schedule adherence, and implement retention strategies.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and coaching sessions to keep teams updated on coding standards, client specifications, and industry changes.

Client Management:

  • Act as a key point of contact for client leadership on coding operations and performance.
  • Lead regular client meetings including Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), and other strategic discussions.
  • Analyze client feedback and provider education needs; coordinate educational initiatives and feedback mechanisms.
  • Manage client reporting requirements including production, quality, and reconciliation reports ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

Financial Management:

  • Support Portfolio Leader in managing P&L with a focus on resource utilization, cost control, and revenue growth opportunities.
  • Identify and implement efficiency initiatives to optimize costs while maintaining or improving service levels.
  • Drive initiatives for revenue uplift through volume expansion or productivity improvements without significant cost increases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in BPT, MPT, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, B Pharm, M Pharm, BOT, Life Sciences (mandatory)
  • AHIMA/AAPC certification is required
  • Additional qualifications such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS are a strong advantage

Experience:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in medical coding, including at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role
  • Proven track record of managing large teams and complex coding operations
  • Experience in client management and working with multidisciplinary teams

Functional Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of medical coding guidelines, NCCI edits, CMS and other regulatory frameworks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, G-suite, and coding management tools
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop teams
