Global Treasury Operations (GTO) is organized by geographic regions and has global responsibility for cash management, operational funding/investment, foreign exchange exposure management activities, and banking services conducted by the Global Treasury organization. This worldwide team is executing American Express' funding and balance sheet management strategies daily, in a highly controlled manner.

One of the key responsibilities of the regional operations teams is daily cash management to ensure sufficient cash availability at all points of time in 1400+ bank accounts for 180+ legal entities held with 200+ bank partners.

Additionally, Foreign Exchange (FX) exposure clearing for AXP entities is managed out of EMEA (UK) and APAC (India) FX trading desks.

Treasury Operations (APAC) team manages daily cash management activities so that sufficient cash is available in 300+ bank accounts for 30+ legal entities held with 100+ bank partners. Additionally, the team also manages FX exposures clearing/hedging for restricted currency markets in APAC region and function as back-up for EMEA GTO in case of Out of Region (OOR) BCP situation.

We are looking for a top caliber Delivery Leader for managing Treasury Operations who will lead Cash and FX exposure Risk management for a cluster of APAC markets.

In addition, for effective and efficient management of daily operations, this role would also be responsible for supporting business projects in the APAC region. For such projects, the incumbent would need to collaborate with multiple stakeholders – within Treasury, across Finance and outside Finance too.

  • Global Merchant and Network settlement APAC - ensuring merchant & network partner settlement accounts are adequately funded daily.
  • Global Consumer Services Group and Global Commercial Services APAC - ensure disbursal accounts for non-card lending portfolio have sufficient fund availability on daily basis.
  • Global Supplier Management, Tax, Payroll and Travel and Lifestyle Services – ensure vital daily funding for Operating expenses settlements.
  • APAC Lead Finance Officer & business teams – Optimize Cost of Funds (COF) by improving investments of surplus cash and minimizing borrowings, project COF for plan, long range plans and monthly risk & opportunities with commentary around interest rate movements.

The directive for the role is to ensure the following for assigned markets:

Cash management

Sufficient funding always in an effective, efficient, and controlled manner.

FX Management

FX exposures are hedged through appropriate instruments.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Effectively Lead a team of 4-5 Treasury Analysts and Managers.
  • Ensuring timely completion of daily cash management processes for cluster of markets across spread across APAC region with different banking cut-offs.
  • Ensuring proactive monitoring of cash flows including forecasting of cash flows to ensure sufficient liquidity.
  • Optimizing overall Cost of Funds for APAC markets and minimizing idle cash needs for operating business.
  • Daily clearing of FX exposures through FX trades.
  • Preparing annual and periodic forecasting of Cost of Funds for the APAC markets.
  • Stay abreast with new-age technologies & understand process automation tools/techniques to streamline daily Cash & FX operations.
  • Support audits of processes for both Internal and statutory audits
  • Effectively engage with and influence external and internal partners while working on cross-functional projects. 

Qualifications:

  • MBA or a post-graduate degree in Finance/Economics.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in a Treasury function with sound knowledge of foreign exchange, derivative instruments, liquidity management and accounting concepts.
  • Excellent understanding of Treasury domain and role it plays in overall Finance organization.
  • Knowledge of different funding solutions like bank borrowings, overdrafts, and bank account structures like physical and notional pools.
  • Experience in daily operations with multiple time cut-offs.
  • Experience with automation tools and advances excel skills would be highly desirable.
  • Firsthand experience on Treasury management systems, like FIS Quantum, Kyriba and FX Trading terminals like Bloomberg/360T/ highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate subject matter intensive matters in a clear and concise manner.
  • Able to lead empower staff and maintain teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to conduct meetings with colleagues from different level.
