Technical Writer

Role Purpose

The Technical Writer creates clear, accurate, technical & user-focused documentation for technical products, systems, and processes. This role bridges the gap between complex technical concepts and end-user understanding, producing high-quality documentation that enables users to successfully implement and use technical solutions.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Create and Maintain Technical Documentation

• Develop and maintain a variety of documentation types, including user guides, API documentation, installation guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and online help systems for technical products and services.
• Tailor documentation for multiple audiences such as end users, administrators, developers, and technical support teams, adjusting complexity and detail appropriately.
• Ensure documentation quality by reviewing, editing, and maintaining content for technical accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, and adherence to style guides and standards.

Collaborate and Organize Information

• Work closely with developers, engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information, validate accuracy, and ensure documentation reflects current product functionality.
• Design and implement effective information architecture by organizing and structuring documentation for optimal user experience, including logical navigation, indexing, and intuitive content hierarchies.
• Manage the documentation lifecycle by planning, tracking, and delivering content aligned with product release schedules, maintaining version control, and updating documentation based on product changes and user feedback.

Optimize Documentation Processes and Tools

• Utilize and manage documentation platforms, content management systems, version control tools, and publishing workflows to efficiently create and distribute documentation.
• Contribute to documentation strategy by recommending improvements to processes, tools, and standards, supporting initiatives to enhance documentation effectiveness and user satisfaction.

SFIA Level 3 Capabilities

Apply established documentation standards and tools to produce clear, accurate, and user-focused technical content, ensuring compliance with organizational guidelines and project requirements.

Required

• Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field.
• Proven experience (2+ years) in technical writing or content development in a technical environment.
• Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Confluence, Git, Markdown).
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with content management systems and version control.
• Experience working directly with software development teams.
• Proven portfolio demonstrating technical documentation work across multiple formats.
• Track record of delivering documentation on schedule and to quality standards.

Preferred

• Certification in Technical Communication (e.g., ISTC, STC).
• Experience writing for APIs, SDKs, or developer audiences.
• Knowledge of UX writing and accessibility standards.
• Understanding of cybersecurity, cloud technologies, or automation systems.
• Entry-level Agile certification (e.g., Scrum Foundations, Certified Scrum Master - CSM) or willingness to obtain.
• Experience in Agile environments or project coordination roles.
• Familiarity with Agile tools and basic metrics (e.g., burndown charts, velocity).
