Role & responsibilities

About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering & Maintenance function for our prestigious 5-star property with 300 rooms and state-of-the-art banquet facilities. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for ensuring smooth operations of all engineering systems, preventive maintenance, compliance with safety standards, energy management, and managing a high-performing technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the engineering department, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and civil systems.

    Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for guestrooms, banquet areas, kitchens, laundry, and all back-of-house facilities.

    Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including fire safety, environment, and energy-saving standards.

    Monitor and manage utility consumption (electricity, water, fuel, etc.) to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.

    Drive sustainability initiatives and implement energy-saving projects across the property.

    Prepare and manage the annual engineering budget, capital expenditure planning, and procurement of equipment/spares.

    Lead the engineering team with a focus on training, motivation, and skill enhancement.

    Coordinate with other departments (Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, etc.) to ensure seamless guest experience.

    Ensure timely resolution of engineering-related guest complaints.

    Maintain liaison with local authorities for statutory approvals, inspections, and certifications.

    Manage engineering support during large banquets, conferences, and events.

    Maintain updated engineering SOPs, maintenance records, and audit documentation.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Industry Experience: Must have prior experience in hospitality / 5-star hotels / luxury resorts (not industrial/manufacturing sector).
  • Role Experience: Minimum 1215 years in hotel engineering, with at least 5 years as Chief Engineer / Deputy Chief Engineer in a reputed 4/5-star property.
  • Property Size Exposure: Experience in handling large inventory hotels (250+ rooms) and banquet/convention facilities.
  • Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (Masters degree preferred).
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage large technical teams and contractors/vendors.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HVAC, MEP, DG sets, fire & life safety systems, elevators, kitchen & laundry equipment, water treatment plants, and energy management.
  • Compliance: Familiar with local statutory requirements, safety audits, and government regulations related to hospitality engineering.
  • Location Preference (if applicable): Candidates from [Mumbai/City/Region] or willing to relocate.
  • Age Bracket (if you want to define): Typically below 45 years (flexible depending on experience).
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, crisis management, guest-centric approach, and excellent communication skills.
