
Business Development Lead Parametric Insurance

About the Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Business Development Lead to spearhead growth in our Parametric Insurance vertical. This role is ideal for someone with a proven track record of building sales functions from the ground up, strong industry connections, and deep expertise in parametric risk solutions. You will lead strategic initiatives, enter new markets, and drive sustainable revenueespecially in climate-sensitive and underserved segments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute the go-to-market (GTM) strategy for the Parametric Insurance vertical.
- Build the entire sales function from scratch — from prospecting to closure.
- Identify and convert new business opportunities, customer segments, and revenue streams.
- Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline and ensure consistent deal closures.
- Forge and manage partnerships with insurers, reinsurers, agri-input companies, NBFCs, cooperatives, and government agencies.
- Generate, qualify, and nurture leads with strategies tailored to parametric product models.
- Collaborate closely with product, actuarial, tech, and operations teams to deliver custom parametric solutions.
- Monitor market trends, climate risk data, policy developments, and competitor offerings.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and exhibitions.
- Build and mentor a lean, high-performing sales team.
- Deliver regular performance reports, revenue forecasts, and business insights to senior leadership.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Agriculture, Climate Science, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in business development—preferably in parametric/climate-risk insurance, reinsurance, or rural financial services.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling a sales function (0 to 100).
- Strong understanding of parametric insurance products, climate data, and risk triggers.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong execution capability and adaptability.
- Willingness to travel extensively, especially to high-risk or underserved regions.
Preferred:
- Experience in insurtech, parametric product design, reinsurance, or agri-fintech.
- Existing relationships with insurers, reinsurers, government agencies, and institutional clients.
Familiarity with weather/satellite data platforms and digital insurance infrastructure.
