Job Summary:
The Senior Formulation Chemist will be responsible for developing and optimizing innovative colour cosmetic formulations such as foundations, lipsticks, eyeliners, mascaras, and other makeup products. This role involves hands-on formulation, stability testing, ingredient evaluation, and scale-up support while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, develop, and optimize formulations for colour cosmetic products (e.g., lip, face, and eye makeup).
Evaluate raw materials, pigments, and functional ingredients for performance and stability.
Conduct laboratory experiments, stability studies, and compatibility testing.
Work closely with packaging, regulatory, and manufacturing teams for product scale-up and commercialization.
Maintain documentation including formulation records, test reports, and technical data sheets.
Troubleshoot formulation issues and continuously improve existing products.
Stay updated on global cosmetic trends, new technologies, and regulatory guidelines (FDA, BIS, EU, etc.).
Ensure formulations align with brand claims, sensory expectations, and cost targets.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Education: M.Sc. / M.Pharm / B.Tech. in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field.
Strong understanding of emulsion systems, pigment dispersion, and sensory evaluation.
Familiarity with cosmetic regulatory compliance and ingredient safety.
Proficiency in lab-scale formulation, testing, and documentation.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with clean beauty / vegan / cruelty-free formulations.
Knowledge of new generation emulsifiers, film formers, and texture enhancers.
Exposure to scale-up and production transfer.
