About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Jira Administrator / Technical Architect to lead the architecture, integration, and configuration of advanced Jira solutions, including custom development using ScriptRunner with Groovy. This role is critical in defining the technical roadmap, ensuring architectural best practices, and enabling seamless delivery of a dynamic, database-driven, and highly integrated solution within the Jira ecosystem.

The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of Jira internals, plugin and add-on architecture, and extensive hands-on experience managing complex configurations, workflows, permission schemes, and automation rules. You will collaborate closely with developers, product teams, and business stakeholders to ensure the solution is scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical architecture for solutions integrated with Jira, including custom ScriptRunner development.
• Provide technical oversight and governance for the full development lifecycle: planning, design, implementation, deployment, and support.
• Lead the integration of external databases (e.g., Teradata, MySQL) with Jira for data-driven applications.
• Manage advanced Jira configurations, including custom fields, workflows, screens, permissions, issue types, automation, and notifications.
• Guide the development team in best practices for modular plugin architecture, Groovy scripting, and data visualization within Jira.
• Ensure compliance with Atlassian performance, security, and deployment standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Jira functionality, plugin behavior, and system integrations.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and configuration playbooks.
• Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into Jira-based solutions.
• Stay current with the latest Atlassian ecosystem updates, tools, and APIs.
• Experience with Jira migration, including migrating plugins, Java versions, and script libraries.
• Experience with deployment and upgrading system and custom plugins.
• Experience managing pitfalls from conflicting scripts and plugins.
• Defining best practices for development of plugins.
• Guide the team in defining user roles and workflows whenever required by plugin.
• Project manage the entire development process.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8-10 years of overall IT experience with a strong focus on Jira administration and technical architecture.
• In-depth knowledge of Jira Server/Data Center, ScriptRunner, Groovy, and Atlassian SDK.
• Hands-on experience with custom integrations, especially involving Teradata and MySQL.
• Strong understanding of Jira plugin architecture, OSGi, and REST APIs.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale, complex Jira solutions across departments or organizations.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) for UI/UX elements embedded in Jira.
• Solid understanding of Jira performance tuning, scalability planning, and high availability deployments.
• Proficient with change management, release planning, and version control (e.g., Git).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Atlassian certifications such as ACP-100 (Jira Admin) or ACP-600 (Project Admin).
• Experience with other Atlassian tools (Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for plugin deployment.
• Familiarity with cloud migrations and Jira Cloud limitations/benefits.
• Exposure to Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments.
