A kitchen supervisor oversees daily kitchen operations, including managing staff, ensuring food quality and safety, and maintaining inventory. Key duties involve supervising kitchen staff, training new employees, monitoring sanitation and safety standards, and assisting with menu planning and cost control. The supervisor also manages food orders, ensures consistent product presentation, and handles customer complaints related to food. Key responsibilities
- Staff management: Supervise, train, and coordinate the activities of cooks, dishwashers, and other kitchen staff.
- Food quality and safety: Ensure all food is prepared according to established standards, monitor food quality and presentation, and enforce sanitation and health code regulations.
- Inventory and ordering: Monitor inventory levels, manage the storage and distribution of food and supplies, and place orders as needed.
- Operational oversight: Streamline food preparation and cooking processes, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Menu and cost control: Assist with menu planning and development, control food costs, and ensure portion control policies are followed.
- Customer service: Handle customer complaints related to food quality and work with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
Essential skills and qualifications
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Experience in kitchen operations and cooking.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
- Food handler certification is often required.
