A Lab Sample Collection Executive is responsible for collecting biological, environmental, or other samples from patients or client sites, properly labeling and documenting them, and delivering them to the laboratory for testing. Key duties include adhering to strict safety and hygiene protocols, maintaining accurate records, and providing a professional and polite customer service experience. This is often a field-based role that requires strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Key responsibilities

  • Sample collection: Collect various types of samples, such as blood, urine, stool, swabs, or environmental materials from patients or designated locations.
  • Identification and labeling: Ensure all samples are correctly identified, properly labeled, and prepared for transport.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all collected samples, patient details, and relevant information, often using mobile apps or specific software.
  • Safety and hygiene: Follow standard safety, hygiene, and biohazard procedures, and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Transportation: Safely and efficiently transport collected samples to the main laboratory within specified timeframes.
  • Patient/client interaction: Handle patients or clients politely and professionally, and coordinate with sales or client representatives for sample handover.
  • Inventory and maintenance: Maintain an inventory of sample collection supplies and ensure field equipment is in good condition.

Qualifications and skills

  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma is often required, with some roles potentially preferring an ITI, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Prior experience in sample collection is beneficial but not always mandatory, as training is often provided.
  • Driving: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are frequently mandatory.
  • Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Familiarity with GPS and mobile data entry apps can be helpful.
