Key Responsibilities:

Database Server Configuration & Deployment

  • Install, configure, and upgrade SQL (e.g., MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase).
  • Configure instances for optimal I/O, memory, and CPU usage.
  • Setup clustering, replication, and high-availability configurations (Always On, failover clustering, sharding, etc.).
  • Design backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans for on-prem and cloud DBs.

Performance Monitoring & Tuning

  • Monitor database performance metrics and proactively resolve bottlenecks (query optimization, indexing, cache tuning).
  • Perform regular health checks, analyzing execution plans, lock contention, and long-running queries.
  • Implement database profiling, partitioning, and archiving strategies.

Operational Support

  • Manage user access controls, roles, and security policies in accordance with compliance standards.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to DB connections, slow queries, or failed jobs.
  • Support data migrations, schema changes, patching, and upgrades with minimal downtime.

Automation & Scripting

  • Create scripts for backup, restore, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Develop automation workflows using tools like PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible.
  • Maintain infrastructure-as-code for DB setup (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work with developers on DB design best practices, schema evolution, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with DevOps for CI/CD integration and cloud-native DB management.
