Job Summary:

Import & Export Customs Clearance Manager will be responsible for end-to-end customs operations for sea and air shipments across India. The incumbent will manage timely clearance of consignments while maintaining accuracy in HS classification and statutory procedures. Strong operational knowledge, communication skills, and attention to detail are essential to ensure smooth cargo movement and full compliance with company policies. The role involves preparing documentation, coordinating with CHAs, freight forwarders, and shipping lines, internal / external stake holders and ensuring compliance with Indian Customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Import Documentation & Coordination

2. Support end-to-end customs clearance activities for both import and export shipments, ensuring timely and compliant cargo movement.

3. Ensure accurate classification of goods (HSN codes), proper valuation, and adherence to all statutory trade and customs regulations.
4. Maintain full compliance with the Customs Act, 1962, and all applicable rules issued by CBIC, DGFT, and allied authorities.
5. Review, verify, and manage import/export documentation including Bill of Entry, Shipping Bills, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, and Certificates of Origin.
6. Coordinate effectively with Customs House Agents (CHAs), freight forwarders, shipping lines and internal stake holders to facilitate smooth and timely clearance of consignments.
7. Monitor vessel and flight arrival schedules, manage pre-alerts, and ensure submission of documents to stakeholders in advance.
8. Track and maintain detailed shipment records, including clearance status, duty payments, and delivery timelines.
9. Assist in Direct Port Delivery (DPD) documentation and ensure pre-alert filings are accurate and submitted on time.
10. Maintain shipment-wise documentation with 100% accuracy and ensure readiness for internal and external audits.

11. Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders on Compliance requirements, shipment progress, exceptions, and clearance timelines.

12. Customs Compliance

13. Ensure accurate HSN code classification and valuation of imported goods as per Customs Tariff and allied acts.

14. Verify compliance with QCO, BIS, DGFT, PQ, ETA, WPC and other regulatory requirements as applicable.
15. Ensure all filings and clearances comply with Customs Act, 1962, and FTP (Foreign Trade Policy) provisions.

16. Maintain liaison with customs authorities, CFS, and port officials when required.

17. Financial & MIS Reporting

18. Coordinate for import duty payment, duty exemptions (EPCG, SEZ, Advance Authorization), and bond closures.

19. Support monthly/quarterly reporting of import cost, duty savings, and clearance turnaround time.

20. Reconcile import documentation for audit and financial closure purposes.

21. Stakeholder Management

22. Work closely with procurement, logistics, accounts, and project teams for end-to-end shipment visibility.

23. Interface with vendors, suppliers, and CHAs for document accuracy and timely submission.

24. Provide timely updates on shipment delays, demurrage, or detention risk to management.

25. Continuous Improvement

26. Identify process bottlenecks and suggest improvements in customs clearance cycle time.

27. Keep updated on latest CBIC notifications, trade circulars, and duty structure changes.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Education:

o Bachelor's Degree (any stream) is mandatory.

o Specialization in Import/Export Management, International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Law, or MBA preferred.

• Experience:

o 8–10 years of hands-on experience in Import Customs clearance operations (preferably manufacturing, engineering, or Infra sector).

o Familiarity with customs portals – ICEGATE, DGFT, MOS, SEZ Online, and CHA coordination processes.

• Technical Skills:

o Strong knowledge of HS Code classification, Customs Duty structure, IGCR, FTP & Import Licensing.

o Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).

• Soft Skills:

o Excellent communication and coordination skills.

o Strong attention to detail, compliance orientation, and problem-solving ability.
