Deputy Manager

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

Within the Maintenance- Plant 2 department at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, specifically in the Swaraj Division under Manufacturing, you will take on a critical role of the maintenance operations of diverse machining and heat treatment equipment. Your responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing maintenance activities in both heavy and light machine shops, managing equipment such as CNC machines including Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC), Vertical Machining Centers (VMC), Turning, Grinding, Milling, Boring, Broaching machines, as well as gear-cutting machines like Hobbing, Shapers, Shaving, Gear Tooth Cutting (GTC), and robotics involved in manufacturing processes.
• Managing heat treatment processes with equipments like Salt Quenching Furnaces (SQF) and Induction Hardening machinery, ensuring they operate at optimal efficiency and safety.
• Leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and ensuring smooth operational performance of all equipment, focusing on minimizing downtime and maximizing machine availability.
• Driving compliance with all statutory safety norms and standards, fostering a culture of safety within the team and plant.
• Implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) methodologies to continuously improve plant productivity, machine reliability, and product quality.
• Ensuring strict adherence to 100% preventive maintenance schedules to avoid unexpected breakdowns and support meeting plant efficiency, quality, and cost objectives.
• Planning and managing spare parts inventory to ensure timely availability for all maintenance requirements, balancing optimal stock levels with cost control.
• Applying extensive knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics to maintain and troubleshoot respective systems integrated into the manufacturing equipment.
• Collaborating with cross-functional departments including production, quality assurance, and procurement, to align maintenance activities with overall plant goals.
• Continuously analyzing machine performance data to identify improvement opportunities and executing action plans to enhance equipment life and efficiency.

This role requires hands-on technical expertise to drive maintenance excellence and support manufacturing operations.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. A strong academic foundation in mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and maintenance engineering is essential for effectively managing complex machinery and technical teams.

Preferred educational qualifications include:

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering
• Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering

Additional certifications or training in CNC machine operation, TPM, TQM, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, or maintenance management will be considered advantageous but are not mandatory. Commitment to ongoing professional development is encouraged to keep abreast of evolving technologies and best practices in plant maintenance.

General Experience

Applicants should possess a minimum of 4 to 8 years of broad experience in maintenance roles within manufacturing environments, preferably in the automotive or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) industries. This experience must include significant exposure to heavy and light machine shops, with hands-on work on CNC machinery and heat treatment processes.

General professional experience requirements encompass:

• Extensive maintenance experience in manufacturing plants operating advanced machining and heat treatment equipment.
• Proven leadership roles involving coordination and supervision of maintenance teams.
• Strong familiarity with industrial maintenance standards, safety protocols, and production alignment.
• Experience with preventive maintenance scheduling and spare parts inventory management.
• Demonstrated ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives such as TPM and TQM within plant operations.

Experience in environment compliance and working with cross-functional teams to optimize plant performance will further enhance candidacy.

Critical Experience

Critical experience for success in this managerial role includes hands-on expertise and in-depth knowledge in the following areas:

• Operation and maintenance of CNC machines such as HMC, VMC, Turning centers, Grinding, Milling, Boring machines, and advanced gear-cutting machinery like Hobbing, Shapers, Shaving, and Gear Tooth Cutting Machines (GTC).
• Working knowledge of heat treatment equipment, including Salt Quenching Furnaces (SQF), Induction Hardening systems, and related industrial washing machines.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems integrated within manufacturing equipment for efficient troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Leadership in managing troubleshooting activities ensuring minimal downtime and peak performance of manufacturing equipment.
• Implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) principles in an industrial manufacturing setting, driving process improvements and equipment reliability.
• Planning and executing preventive maintenance strategies to achieve 100% adherence, thereby increasing machine availability and contributing to plant efficiency and cost targets.
• Spare parts forecasting and inventory management to support uninterrupted maintenance operations.
• Solid understanding of statutory safety norms applicable to a manufacturing environment and demonstrated ability to enforce compliance rigorously.
