Head - Design & Engineering

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic & Technical Leadership

• Develop and implement design and engineering strategy aligned with business and manufacturing goals.
• Lead innovation and technology adoption in industrial equipment design.
• Guide DFM, DFA, and PLCM practices across teams.

2. Product Design & Engineering Deliverables

• Oversee conceptualization, modeling, detailing, and validation of industrial equipment.
• Approve GA drawings, fabrication drawings, technical specifications, and BOMs.
• Drive solutions for customization, OEM/ODM projects, and tender-based requirements.

3. Technical Solutions for Enquiries / Proposals

• Review client enquiries and RFQs to provide accurate technical solutions.
• Collaborate with sales for techno-commercial proposals.
• Define specifications, cost-effective configurations, and feasibility plans.
• Ensure alignment with customer needs, standards, and manufacturing capabilities.

4. Commissioning & Demo Management

• Provide engineering support for commissioning, installation, and product demo activities.
• Coordinate with Service, Projects, and Sales teams for smooth execution at customer sites.
• Offer technical guidance to resolve on-site issues and ensure performance validation.

5. Customer Interaction During DAP (Design Approval Process)

• Participate in technical discussions, design approvals, and engineering sign-offs.
• Conduct presentations and address customer technical requirements.
• Manage design changes, documentation, and approvals during DAP stages.

6. Customer Complaint Handling & RCA

• Lead resolution of customer complaints related to design or product performance.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Coordinate with Quality, Service, and Production for issue closure and improvement.

7. Cross-Functional & Manufacturing Integration

• Collaborate with Production, SCM, QA/QC, Service, and Projects teams.
• Ensure manufacturability, feasibility, and cost optimization in designs.
• Support prototyping, tooling, and trials.

8. Project Execution & Documentation

• Monitor engineering timelines, resource allocation, and deliverable milestones.
• Drive engineering change management, revision control, and technical documentation.

9. Quality, Standards & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to ISO, ASME, DIN, BIS, CE, and other statutory standards.
• Oversee testing, validation, certifications, and safety compliance.

10. New Product Development (NPD) & Innovation

• Lead design improvements, new product launches, and customer-specific solutions.
• Promote CAD/CAE/digital engineering, simulations, and prototyping.

11. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor engineers, draftsmen, R&D personnel, and solutioning teams.
• Drive productivity, competency enhancement, and performance reviews.

12. Vendor, Client & Stakeholder Coordination

• Provide design inputs to vendors and fabricators.
• Work with consultants, inspection agencies, and client engineering teams.
• Support techno-commercial discussions and site coordination.

13. Budgeting & Resource Planning

• Prepare budgets for design and engineering departments.
• Optimize use of tools, manpower, and technical resources.

Technical Competencies

• CAD/CAE tools: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, Catia, Inventor, ANSYS
• Knowledge of fabrication, machining, hydraulics, pneumatics, automation, assembly
• Experience with DAP, commissioning, RCA, and client technical interaction
• PLM, BOM, ERP/SAP, and documentation systems
