Job Overview
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end project management for new ships, ensuring their timely delivery, adherence to quality standards, and budget control. The role also covers the ongoing maintenance of existing ships, preparing maintenance budgets, tracking actual costs, and ensuring cost efficiency for each vessel. The Project Manager will act as the central communication link between shipyards, project consultants, and internal teams, ensuring seamless coordination. A deep understanding of maritime safety standards and environmental regulations is critical, ensuring all vessels comply with laws while prioritizing guest safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
New Ship Projects Management
● Oversee the entire lifecycle of new ship projects — from concept, design review, and yard selection to delivery and commissioning.
● Coordinate with shipyards, naval architects, and technical consultants to ensure all technical, safety, and operational requirements are met.
● Track project timelines, ensuring delivery within schedule and approved budgets.
● Conduct regular project reviews and report progress to senior management.
● Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
● Review and approve design changes, ensuring they align with operational and safety requirements.
Fleet Maintenance & Operational Oversight
● Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for the existing fleet.
● Co-ordinate dry-dock planning, refits, and major repairs, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
● Monitor maintenance work quality, ensuring adherence to maritime safety and environmental standards.
● Prepare ship-wise maintenance budgets and track actual vs budgeted costs, identifying variances and areas for cost optimization.
● Implement cost control measures to improve operational efficiency across the fleet.
● Ensure regular condition monitoring, asset health tracking, and documentation of maintenance activities for each vessel.
Communication & Coordination
● Serve as the key point of contact between internal teams (operations, technical, finance), shipyards, consultants, and classification societies.
● Facilitate smooth communication across all stakeholders, ensuring alignment on project objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
● Prepare regular reports and presentations for management on project status, maintenance performance, and cost analysis.
Costing & Budgeting
● Prepare comprehensive project budgets for new ship construction, refits, and dry-docking.
● Continuously monitor and control project expenditures, ensuring alignment with approved budgets.
● Conduct post-project cost analysis to identify opportunities for future cost savings.
● Analyze fleet-wide maintenance costs to highlight high-cost areas and recommend corrective actions.
Safety, Compliance & Environmental Responsibility
● Ensure all ships (new and existing) comply with international maritime safety and environmental regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
● Collaborate with safety officers to implement and monitor guest safety protocols, especially for onboard systems.
● Keep updated on changes to safety and environmental regulations and ensure all vessels comply with the latest requirements.
● Promote a strong safety culture across the fleet and during shipyard operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field.
● years of experience in ship project management, fleet maintenance, or marine operations.
● Strong understanding of shipbuilding processes, equipment, and systems.
● Solid knowledge of international maritime regulations (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
● Proficiency in project costing, budgeting, and financial analysis.
● Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
● Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and cost control.
● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
● Experience in working with shipyards, classification societies, and technical consultants.
Preferred Experience
● Previous experience managing passenger ships or cruise vessels.
● Familiarity with eco-friendly technologies and sustainability initiatives in ship design and operations.
● Experience in setting up digital monitoring systems for fleet maintenance.
Key Attributes
● Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
● Excellent organizational and planning skills.
● Proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
