They ensure that all materials used in furniture production meet the required standards for durability, safety, and aesthetics. This role is crucial for maintaining product quality and consistency.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Material Testing**:

- Conducting tests on raw materials (wood, metals, adhesives, finishes) to assess their physical and chemical properties.
- Performing tests for durability, strength, resistance to wear and tear, and environmental factors.
- Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and accuracy.
- **Quality Control**:

- Developing and implementing quality control procedures for materials and finished products.
- Analyzing test results and identifying deviations from quality standards.
- Documenting and reporting test findings, including recommendations for corrective actions.
- Monitoring production samples to ensure compliance.
- **Product Development Support**:

- Collaborating with design and production teams to evaluate new materials and prototypes.
- Conducting tests to assess the performance of new product designs.
- Providing technical expertise on material selection and performance.
- **Laboratory Management**:

- Managing laboratory inventory and supplies.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and laboratory procedures.

- **Standards and Compliance**:

- Keeping up to date with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, BIS).
- Ensuring that all lab operations comply with applicable regulations.
- **Education**:

- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Wood Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree may be preferred for senior positions

**Specific Furniture Industry Considerations**:

- **Wood Testing**: Understanding wood moisture content, density, strength, and durability.
- **Finish Testing**: Evaluating the resistance of finishes to scratches, chemicals, and UV light.
- **Fabric and Foam Testing**: Assessing the durability, flammability, and comfort of upholstery materials.
- **Adhesive Testing**: Ensuring the strength and durability of adhesives used in furniture assembly.
- **Environmental Testing**: Testing for formaldehyde emissions and other environmental impacts.
