The International Student Advisor supports international students through their educational journey by providing comprehensive guidance on immigration matters, cultural adjustment, academic success, and personal well-being. This role ensures students comply with immigration regulations and fosters a positive and inclusive environment for their academic and social success.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Student Support and Advising**:

- Provide individual advising sessions to international students on visa regulations, academic policies, and cultural adaptation.
- Offer guidance on academic matters, including course selection, registration, and academic progress.
- **Immigration Compliance**:

- Monitor and ensure students maintain their legal status by complying with visa regulations and reporting requirements.
- Stay updated with changes in immigration laws and inform students and staff accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of student status and documentation in compliance with institutional and federal guidelines.
- **Orientation and Workshops**:

- Plan and conduct orientation programs for new international students to facilitate their transition to the institution and the local community.
- Organize workshops and informational sessions on various topics, including cultural adjustment, employment opportunities, and academic success strategies.
- **Cultural and Social Integration**:

- Promote cultural exchange and inclusivity by organizing social events, cultural activities, and peer mentoring programs.
- Provide resources and support for students to engage with the campus community and local culture.
- Assist students with personal challenges and refer them to appropriate campus services when necessary.
- **Collaboration and Advocacy**:

- Work closely with academic departments, student services, and administrative offices to support international students' needs.
- Advocate for international students' interests within the institution and help create policies that support their success.
- Serve as a liaison between students and external agencies, such as immigration authorities and embassies.
- **Crisis Management**:

- Provide emergency support and intervention for international students facing personal, academic, or immigration-related crises.
- Develop and implement protocols for responding to student emergencies and critical incidents.

Qualifications:

- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in International Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with international students or in a related field.
- **Skills**:

- Strong knowledge of immigration regulations and international student issues.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural skills.
- Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in multiple languages is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Attributes:

- Experience in advising and counseling within a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with student information systems and immigration compliance software.
- Certification or training in intercultural communication or international student advising.

Work Environment:

- Office-based with occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate student needs and events.
