**The Organisation**
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) works with cities worldwide to
promote transport solutions that reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse
emissions while improving urban livability and economic opportunity. ITDP is a not-for-profit
organisation with its headquarters in New York City. ITDP works in South Africa, Tanzania,
Uganda, Kenya, India, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States.

Since 2021, ITDP is represented in India by ITDP Pvt Ltd and works with governments,
multilateral agencies, and civil society to make visible, on-the-ground improvements by
providing technical expertise, policy solutions, research publications, and training

**About the Position**
ITDP India is looking to hire a Research Intern - Healthy Streets with an interest in research on
be passionate about creating streets and cities that prioritises walking, cycling, and public
transport, proficient in preparing high-quality graphic content, and have excellent written and
programmatic team that is working in Chennai.

**Roles and responsibilities**
The intern shall work closely with associates and report to the Deputy Manager - Healthy
Streets & Compact cities. The primary responsibilities are given below but the internmay be
required to perform additional tasks even if they are not explicitly mentioned.
- Coordinate and support the team for the smooth progression of all programmatic

work in Chennai
- Coordinate with city officials, design consultants, and other line agencies for

organizing internal discussions and inter-departmental meetings at every
milestone
- Ensure all designs and drawings developed by the consultants are as per the

Street Design Guidelines and have site compliance
- Support the team in site visits and monitoring implementation of works
- Actively contribute and support the Tamil Nadu Programmatic team in the
- communication and outreach activities- Prepare presentations, project notes, and reports
- Author blogs, infographics, and other necessary communication materials
- Coordinate outreach activities and stakeholder consultation meetings
- Conducting research, and case studies, and supporting the Programmatic team with

preparing technical resources.
**Qualification and Essential Attributes**
A degree in urban design, urban planning, or other relevant fields.- Post-graduate degree in a similar discipline will be an advantage.
- Excellent graphic skills to effectively communicate ideas
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office is required.
- Knowledge of GIS would be a plus.- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaborate with teams.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Preference is given to those with prior experience in the urban development/transport
- sector.- Ability to communicate in Tamil.

**How to apply**
The position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and is based in Chennai. The
minimum commitment required is 6 months.
