Environment Artist/level Designer

**Role Overview**: We are looking for a talented individual who possesses a strong artistic eye for environment creation and a keen understanding of level design principles. As an **Unreal Engine 5 Game Environment Artist & Level Designer**, you will be instrumental in bringing our game worlds to life, crafting visually stunning and engaging environments that also provide compelling and fluid gameplay experiences. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including Game Design, Art, and Engineering, to ensure the highest quality and playability.
**Responsibilities**:
**Environment Art**:
- Create high-quality 3D models, textures, and materials for diverse game environments (e.g., architectural elements, organic landscapes, props).
- Utilize advanced Unreal Engine 5 features such as **Nanite, Lumen, and Niagara** to achieve stunning visual fidelity.
- Implement physically based rendering (PBR) workflows to ensure realistic lighting and material properties.
- Sculpt and model high-poly and low-poly assets using industry-standard DCC tools (e.g., **Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, ZBrush**).
- Develop modular asset kits for efficient environment construction.
- Implement efficient UV mapping and texture atlases.
- Optimize environment assets for performance across various platforms while maintaining visual quality.
- Collaborate with Concept Artists to translate 2D concepts into compelling 3D environments.
- Maintain artistic consistency and quality standards throughout the environment creation process.
**Level Design**:
- Design and implement engaging and fun gameplay levels, from conceptual blockouts to final polished playable spaces.
- Translate game design documents and core mechanics into well-structured and intuitive level layouts.
- Integrate gameplay elements, including enemy encounters, puzzles, mission objectives, and interactive elements.
- Blockout, prototype, and iterate on level designs, gathering feedback and making necessary adjustments.
- Implement gameplay logic using Unreal Engine 5's **Blueprint visual scripting system**.
- Conduct thorough playtesting of levels to identify and address gameplay issues, bugs, and performance bottlenecks.
- Work closely with Game Designers to ensure levels support core gameplay loops and player progression.
- Collaborate with other artists and engineers to ensure seamless integration of art assets and technical features within levels.
- Ensure levels are optimized for performance and maintain a smooth player experience.
**Combined Responsibilities**:
- Maintain a strong understanding of both artistic and technical constraints within Unreal Engine 5.
- Contribute to the overall artistic and design vision of the game.
- Actively participate in team meetings, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to a positive and collaborative studio culture.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and best practices in game art and level design.
**Required Skills & Qualifications**:
- **Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 is essential.**:
- **Strong portfolio showcasing exceptional 3D environment art (modeling, texturing, lighting) and/or compelling level design work. For freshers, this could include personal projects, academic work, or game jam contributions.**:
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Blender).
- Expertise in sculpting software (e.g., ZBrush).
- Proficiency in texture painting and material creation software (e.g., Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Photoshop).
- Solid understanding of PBR workflows.
- Demonstrable understanding of architectural and environmental design principles, composition, lighting, and color theory.
- Strong grasp of game design principles, including pacing, flow, player guidance, and difficulty balancing.
- Ability to prototype, iterate, and refine level designs based on feedback.
- Experience with Blueprint visual scripting in Unreal Engine 5.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
**Bonus Points**:
- Experience with Houdini for procedural content generation.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Perforce, Git).
- Passion for **FPS, Battle Royale, and Extraction Shooter** games.
