A personal assistant (PA) provides administrative support to a manager or director, typically on a one-to-one basis. Their responsibilities include:
- **Time management**: Helping with daily time management, scheduling meetings, and managing calendars
- **Note-taking**: Taking accurate notes at meetings and taking dictation
- **Travel**: Planning travel, including flights, accommodation, and ground transportation
- **Events**: Coordinating events and speaking engagements
- **Point of contact**: Acting as the point of contact between the manager and internal/external clients
- **Requests**: Handling requests and queries appropriately
Some skills that are important for a PA include: Multitasking, Handling sensitive information, Communicating effectively, and Evaluating priorities. While some people may get a PA role based on previous administrative experience, most require at least a high school diploma. A degree in business administration, office management, or a related field can also help provide the foundational knowledge and skills needed for the role.
