- Job Purpose

To contribute to the Press's publishing programme in Humanities and the Social Sciences. To assist with areas of commissioning under the supervision of the Senior Commissioning Editor, and to offer general assistance in working with authors, reviewers and others in bringing projects forward and ensuring their successful publication.

Reports to Senior Commissioning Editor (SCE). It is expected that the job holder will take responsibility for the majority of the admin duties associated with role.

- Principal Accountabilities

**Pre-commissioning and commissioning**
- Assess BPFs and sample chapters.
- Identify reviewers and prepare material to be sent out, ensure timely delivery of reviews.
- Work with SCE and other CEs to recruit authors/experts and prepare and circulate Syndicate Papers.
- Prepare contracts for authors/editors, contributors and series editors.
- Prepare and maintain project records and updates.
- Work with marketing and sales colleagues wherever necessary.
- Undertake research for expanding author base.

**Work on contracted titles**
- Work closely with authors/editors/contributors/others as required, answering queries and giving guidance as appropriate for each project on intellectual content and structure, in consultation with the CEs, marketing and others as necessary.
- Undertake clearance reviews as necessary.
- Provide content, layout and style suggestions.
- Undertake research on cover designs.
- Contribute to marketing and promotional work including writing blurbs and negotiating appropriate material with author and marketing.

**General administration**
- Maintain workflow for reprints.
- Keep clear, appropriate and up-to-date list-wide records and provide list-wide information as required.
- Make or requisition appropriate payments (if required).
- Ensure that relevant information on systems, including Centaur, is fully accurate and up to date.
- Work as part of a team.
- Attend external events as required (including appropriate conferences and campus meetings, launches and discussions).

To carry out any other duties which may be reasonably expected of you by your immediate manager or a senior colleague.

Postgraduate in Humanities/Social Sciences: English, History, Political Science Sociology, Economics, Comparative Literature, Journalism.

Excellent communication skills.
