**Job Purpose**
- To study market demands and commission new titles, manage editorial schedules, allocate work, coordinate editorial procedures, uphold standards and thereby contribute to the successful implementation of strategies and development of the HE & A vertical (ELT).
- The Commissioning Editor, HE&A role is an editorial one within the English Language Teaching vertical. Its primary focus is to act as the Project Lead on various projects, overseeing content development and collaborating closely with the various liaisons to assure successful project management, but it can have a commissioning component to it as well, which leads to further opportunities and more direct interaction with the educational institutes that are catered to.
- The Commissioning Editor, HE&A participates in the research endeavours for projects and is involved in the project approval process. He/she ensures smooth communication and collaboration between members of a team carrying out related activities.
- The Commissioning Editor, HE&A is also a competent user of the Publishing System, and JIRA ticket, and typically has familiarity with the Cambridge Learning Management System and other platforms.
- The Commissioning Editor, HE&A works with other editors in-house, as well as freelance editors to ensure efficient functioning.
- Frequent contact with Regional Sales Managers, the Business Head and the Publishing Head, HE&A.
- Periodic to frequent contact with the Product Marketing team, HE&A on research, market development, piloting, and product launch.
- Periodic contact with the Sales team, HE&A for visits to markets and on market needs and sales

**Principal Accountabilities**
- Content development: In collaboration with Publishing Manager, act as Project Lead on allocated projects - develop course syllabus where required, scope and sequence, and content, creating clear and effective briefs for authors / writers on project(s) and liaising with them as well as freelance editors during content development, to ensure pedagogical effectiveness, market appropriateness, consistency, accuracy, legal acceptability, and appropriate realization of the agreed intent of the work.
- Development management: Schedule and coordinate the work of authors / writers, in-house and freelance editorial staff to ensure that content is delivered in a timely manner and to project specifications.
- Research and commissioning: In collaboration with Publishing Manager and Regional Sales Managers, maintain familiarity with relevant target markets by undertaking market research to scout for potential projects; identify appropriate authors /writers; and evaluate and develop proposals with authors / writers in consultation with external reviewers and in-house colleagues.
- Editing: Assume overall responsibility for the content and copy editing of allocated projects by briefing and supporting in-house and/or freelancer staff and carrying out specific editing tasks as required; attending recordings and checking digital, audio and video materials; contributing to the selection of artists, and checking sketches and final art; and ensuring page proofs, art, photos, audio, video and digital materials are checked so that all content meets the required editorial standards.

**Knowledge & Experience**
- MA in English literature/ELT.
- Taken part in various ELT conferences to interact with faculty from various universities and colleges.
- Managing editorial schedules and allocating work
- Commissioning new titles, and maintaining associations with several authors across India
- Coordinating editorial procedures and upholding standards
- Liaising with typesetters, illustrators via the Product Development Team on a regular basis
- Ensuring that titles are published on schedule and within budget
- Copy-editing and proofreading material
- Creating fresh content for several ELT products
- Experience of conducting market research and development, conceptualizing products that meet market needs, and specifying projects accordingly
- Experience of managing teams of people and of line managing individuals, with an ability to motivate teams over long projects
- Knowledge of best financial practices on both macro (list planning) and micro (project budgeting) levels
- Good working knowledge of the capabilities and features of content databases (PubSys) and JIRA ticket.
