**Job Summary**:
The Staff Canteen Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a range of meals for staff members, maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer service. The cook will plan menus, manage inventory, and ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Meal Preparation and Cooking**:
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, following established recipes and guidelines.
- Ensure all meals are prepared to a high standard and in a timely manner.
- **Menu Planning**:
- Collaborate with the canteen manager to plan weekly menus that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences.
- Incorporate seasonal ingredients and nutritional balance in meal planning.
- **Food Safety and Hygiene**:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas.
- Follow all food safety regulations and procedures, including proper storage, handling, and cooking of food.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- **Inventory and Supplies Management**:
- Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of food supplies and usage.
- Minimize waste and manage portion control.
- **Customer Service**:
- Serve meals to staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Address any dietary requirements or preferences of staff.
- Handle customer feedback and resolve any issues promptly.
- **Collaboration and Communication**:
- Work closely with the canteen manager and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive work environment.
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Culinary school certification or relevant training is a plus.
- **Experience**:
- Proven experience as a cook or chef in a similar setting.
- Experience in bulk cooking and catering preferred.
- **Skills**:
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
- Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- **Physical Requirements**:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Capability to lift and carry heavy items, such as food supplies.
Working Conditions:
- The role typically involves working in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and cooking odors.
- Working hours may include early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional weekends or holidays, depending on the canteen's operating hours.
