- Ability to effectively strategize and communicate risk, mitigation, and options to the business stakeholders and ensure timely decisions.
- Ability to take a “whole business” approach to identifying problems and creating legal solutions that support overall company progress/success and make critical contributions to managing and solving complex, and/or large legal business challenges.
- Periodically providing advice on a broad range of corporate, commercial, regulatory, compliance, data privacy, employment, litigation, and other legal issues of relevance to Ciena.
- Assist on regulatory matters and strategic issues and assist in maintaining a compliance posture of business. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Significant and comprehensive experience in domestic and international contracts drafting and negotiations based on varied business models with customers, vendors, and partners, including master services agreements, statements of works (SOWs), licensing agreements/software agreements, inter-company agreements, amendments, change orders, and NDAs.
- Role involves negotiations directly with the customers and their attorneys and requires close interactions with the various cross-functional departments, including the business, sales, finance, and commercial teams while providing legal advisory as a business enabler to multiple functions. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
- Requires active participation and advice on the ongoing global strategic projects within the legal department and India business projects to support India's business vision and aspirations.
- Advise on a host of business and corporate law requirements. Research legal issues and provide proactive, sound & professional legal advice.
- Manage tracking systems for various types of contracts and complete contracts database.
- Assist in general administration and operations and other special projects as requested.
