As a Commis 3 at The Pet People Cafe, you will play a crucial role in our kitchen team, supporting the preparation and creation of our delicious vegan dishes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about vegan cuisine and eager to learn and grow in a supportive and dynamic environment.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Food Preparation
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables, fruits, and other plant-based ingredients.
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately as directed by senior chefs.
2. Basic Cooking
- Perform basic cooking tasks such as boiling, steaming and frying, under the supervision of senior chefs.
- Follow recipes and instructions to ensure consistency and high quality.
3. Station Maintenance
- Keep the work station and kitchen clean and organized at all times.
- Ensure all cooking equipment and tools are cleaned, sanitized, and ready for use.
4. Assisting Senior Chefs
- Provide assistance to senior chefs with various tasks, including plating dishes, assembling ingredients, and garnishing meals.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to the needs of the senior chefs during service.
5. Stock Management
- Monitor stock levels and report any shortages to the senior chefs.
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring that stock is rotated and stored properly.
6. Learning and Development
- Actively participate in training and development opportunities to enhance culinary skills and knowledge, especially in vegan cooking techniques.
- Stay updated with new cooking methods and trends in vegan cuisine.
7. Compliance with Health and Safety Standards
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Follow food hygiene standards to prevent contamination and ensure food safety.
8. Waste Management
- Assist in managing kitchen waste, ensuring mínimal wastage of food and ingredients.
- Follow procedures for recycling and proper disposal of kitchen waste.
9. Coordination and Communication
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of food.
10. Quality Control
- Ensure that all dishes prepared meet the quality standards set by the head chef.
- Report any discrepancies or issues with food quality to the senior chefs immediately.
**Requirements**:
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment, preferably in a vegan or plant-based setting.
- Passion for vegan cuisine and commitment to sustainability.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and food preparation techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior chefs.
