Lead Statutory & Accounting Specialist

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of accountants in managing both US GAAP and local statutory accounts. This role requires collaboration with senior stakeholders, including global teams, commercial management, financial departments, and corporate finance functions.

This position involves driving key strategic initiatives and ensuring compliance with company accounting and operational guidelines. The Lead Statutory & Accounting Specialist will interpret and roll out accounting policies and standards, including application of US GAAP.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Researching and resolving technical accounting issues
  • Reviewing financial and accounting analysis involving complex transactions
  • Interpreting and rolling out accounting policy/standards
  • Supporting development and standardization of accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with accounting policy and procedures
  • Monitoring internal control compliance
  • Playing a critical role in the preparation of US GAAP financial statements
  • Managing, coordinating, and reviewing the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close process
  • Reviewing key account reconciliations
  • Performing reserve and impairment analyses
  • Reviewing changes to chart of accounts
  • Performing periodic balance sheet account reviews

This role also involves:

  • Initiating process improvements and quality reviews to simplify and improve productivity
  • Assisting as needed in the statutory reporting process
  • Liaising with external auditors and actuaries
  • Working closely with personnel in all departments to ensure compliance with accounting and operational guidelines
  • Proposing and implementing initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and quality of the process

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Advanced accounting knowledge
  • Financial statement analysis
  • Cost/inventory accounting
  • US GAAP expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent qualifications
  • 14-17 years of progressive experience in accounting, planning, and financial analysis
  • Experience with SAP
  • Managerial experience with solid leadership skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills enabling effective communication
