The role of a physiotherapist is crucial in providing specialized therapeutic support to enhance the well-being and development of children with diverse learning needs.

This position involves working closely with students, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality physiotherapy services that meet the unique needs of each child.

  • Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, and ASD with motor delay.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualized treatment plans (ITPs) and therapy goals in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other health professionals.
  • Deliver 1:1 and group physiotherapy sessions tailored to each child's developmental level and physical needs.
  • Provide support for physical access and mobility within the school environment, including recommending adaptations and assistive equipment.
  • Monitor progress and outcomes using evidence-based tools and update care plans accordingly.
  • Support pupils with postural management programs, mobility aids, orthotics, and safe handling strategies.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, and school nurses.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings, reviews, and transition planning.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, risk assessments, and reports in line with professional standards.
  • Provide training to school staff and families on physiotherapy programs, manual handling, and positioning techniques.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years' experience working with children and adults with multiple disabilities.
  • Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc) and HCPC registration (Health and Care Professions Council).
  • Previous experience working with children and/or young people with special needs is highly desirable.
  • Manual Handling and Safeguarding Children.
  • Knowledge of conditions affecting motor development and experience with specialist equipment (e.g. standing frames, gait trainers).
