Music Educator Position

About Our Music Education Program

We are a renowned institution dedicated to providing special education and vocational training for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

Our programs include pre-vocational and vocational training, supported by a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals. We aim to build a dynamic team of special educators and educators to work with learners with multiple disabilities and to guide participants in our NIOS curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with our positive behaviour support policies.
  • Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' abilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's or P.G Diploma in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
  • 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/Special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing 
  • Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
  • Experience with communication aids
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
