Job Title: Head IP – Risk and Protection

Educational Qualifications: Graduate / PG / PhD qualification in Engineering (Mechanical / Electronics / Automotive / Material Science) is required.

Additional Qualification: WON, WIPO DL101, DFSS, Qualified Patent Agent Exam will be an advantage.

Experience: At least 18 years of experience in the field.

Purpose of the Role:

  1. Review NPD designs to identify potential areas for IP legal risk, plan IP check, and carry out risk mitigation to strengthen culture of technology/NPD through IP.
  2. Develop search strategies and conduct search analysis for FTO, SOA, invalidation, opposition, litigation, etc.
  3. Perform advanced technology and analysis, including competitive intelligence analysis, Design IP protection of transportation design and engineering across business clusters.

Role Description:

  1. Drive IP culture by reviewing designs for IP and initiating actions to de-risk designs/products (current and future).
  2. Conduct advanced patent/competitor portfolio analysis for patent literature as well as non-patent literature. Leverage tools like IT, data analytics for effective search and analysis of IP.
  3. Work closely with IP attorney, legal associates, and close IP FTO opinion reports in a timely manner. Review and recommend FTO decision for IP tests.
  4. Plan and conduct BOM FTO reviews for NPD at product level across automotive technology domains. Implement best-in-class practices, standardize processes, and enhance productivity through digitalization. Periodically sign-off IP test plans with design teams.
  5. Release periodic IP alerts - review and dispose concerns from stakeholders effectively. Manage projects/business clusters independently.
  6. Plan, conduct FTO (Freedom to Operate), state-of-art search analysis on LRP/advanced technology. Trigger timely protection of all forms of IP across major global jurisdictions.
  7. Be well-versed with industry best practices and state-of-art tools for IP searches. Plan and carry out search for SOA, FTO, litigation, and invalidation/opposition search in liaison with legal associates.
  8. Review and resolve claim interpretation issues in FTO with stakeholders. Liaise with legal team for effective disposal. Maintain confidentiality of IP matters systematically.

Qualification in IP Law, WON certificate will be an advantage.
