Job Title: U.K Mortgage Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the 4 C's of underwriting (Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital), risk assessment, income calculations, and property evaluation to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing and screening residential owner-occupied and buy-to-let mortgage applications to understand the customer and application type, ensuring the correct packaging requirements are set.
  • Applying a future-thinking, holistic approach by anticipating the need of the underwriter, this will be done through understanding and assessing the risk of the application, using and interpreting lending policy to ensure the case meets the packaging guidelines.
  • Being responsible for the quality of data, identifying and correcting inaccuracies, including customer personal data, property portfolio, and income and commitments, ensuring the mortgage application is set up for success and ready to be underwritten.
  • Working to agreed deadlines, meeting and exceeding set Service Level Agreements at each touchpoint.
  • Managing all mortgage documents and supporting information, by assessing and validating documents, ensuring they meet the relevant policy and regulatory guidelines.

Key Skills:

  • Understanding and applying Bank policies in terms of documentation, case set-up, and mortgage valuation requirements.
  • Identifying cases that require manual referral to the onshore team and referring them in a timely manner to ensure the customer experience isn't detrimental.
  • Protecting the customer and the Bank by having a strong knowledge of anti-money laundering policies, customer due-diligence policies, and fraud prevention processes.
  • Supporting the management of a large volume of mortgage applications, and working prioritized accordingly to deliver against service Key Performance Indicators.
  • Understanding of system rules and affordability calculators to ensure adherence to policy and bank risk appetite.
