Backend Software Engineer - Migrate Legacy Systems

Mission Overview

Our team seeks a seasoned Backend Software Engineer to spearhead the migration of our legacy systems to modern, cloud-native architecture. As an offshore consultant, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance Java Spring Boot microservices.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a proactive engineer who thrives on understanding complex systems and takes ownership from development to production. You will leverage modern tools to accelerate migration efforts and collaborate with a distributed team to drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Develop: Architect, build, and maintain scalable Java Spring Boot microservices, utilizing best practices for code quality and deployment.
  • Legacy Code Migration: Analyze existing .NET code integrating with our loan servicing platform, understand its business logic, and lead its migration to the new Java stack.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Decommission our legacy .NET message broker and implement a modern event-driven system using cloud-native technologies like Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
  • Cloud-Native Solutions: Build and deploy services using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies, including Cloud Functions, Spanner, and Firestore.
  • System Analysis: Go beyond the user story to develop a deep understanding of the entire system, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in backend software development, with a strong emphasis on enterprise-level systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework.
  • Professional experience with .NET (C#), with a demonstrated ability to read, understand, and reverse-engineer legacy codebases.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically with services like Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Spanner, and/or Firestore.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven design patterns.
