Job Overview:

As a seasoned Category Development Manager, you will lead the building materials category in a defined region. This is a senior leadership role responsible for revenue growth, full profit and loss ownership, and managing a team of 8–10 procurement and category managers.

Key Responsibilities:

">

You will drive sales and profitability of the building materials category (cement, steel, aggregates, etc.) across the assigned region. You will develop and execute strategies for category expansion, margin improvement, and cost efficiency.

">

You will monitor market trends, customer demand, and pricing to optimize sourcing and sales strategies. You will take end-to-end ownership of the regional profit and loss for building materials and manage key metrics including top-line revenue, gross margin, cost of goods, and working capital.

You will align category performance with overall business objectives and contribute to strategic planning. You will lead and manage a team of 8–10 category and procurement managers across the region and set clear key performance indicators, drive performance reviews, and enable skill development for team members.

You will foster a culture of accountability and high performance. You will build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable and cost-effective material sourcing.

You will lead negotiations with manufacturers, distributors, and regional vendors for better terms and pricing. You will ensure procurement operations adhere to compliance, quality standards, and delivery timelines.

Finally, you will coordinate closely with project execution, logistics, finance, and technology teams to ensure smooth end-to-end material flow. You will support project timelines by ensuring just-in-time availability and minimizing stock-outs or excess inventory.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

">

You should have 10–18 years of experience in procurement, category management, or supply chain – preferably in the construction, infrastructure, or building materials industry.

You should hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business; MBA preferred. You should have proven experience in managing large teams, handling regional profit and loss, and working with cross-functional stakeholders.

Additionally, you should have a deep understanding of building materials procurement, pricing structures, and vendor ecosystem. You should possess strong negotiation, leadership, and analytical skills. And finally, you should be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
