Role Description:

Credit Risk Analyst/Underwriter, Team Lead

Designation: Vice President

Location: Chennai

Timing: Flexible, focused around 9am to 5pm US Eastern Standard Time

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the Credit Analyst team in India that underwrites deals for the US market.
• Collaborate closely with the Credit Committee in New York to ensure seamless credit operations.
• Ensure quality of credit analysis, train and mentor the team to meet underwriting quality metrics.
• Oversee daily underwriting pipeline and queues for timely movement, balanced workloads, and efficient resource allocation.
• Serve as the first point of contact for escalated or complex underwriting scenarios, providing guidance and resolving issues to support smooth loan flow.
• Support and mentor underwriters by providing day-to-day guidance, fostering development, and monitoring team performance.
• Ensure underwriting decisions align with agency, investor, and company guidelines while supporting risk management and quality control initiatives.
• Ideate and execute process enhancements in the credit function to improve analysis quality and turnaround times.
• Interact with clients and stakeholders to gather feedback and mentor the team accordingly.
• Collaborate with the Data Science team to embed AI and machine learning into underwriting processes.
• Work with the Trading team to ensure loans are properly structured for warehouse lines and securitizations.
• Present hand-selected deals to the investment committee for final approval.

Background/Experience:

• Master's degree from a premier college with a specialization in finance, economics, or a related field.
• Additional financial qualification US CFA Level 2+ or FRM Level 2.
• Experience in credit analysis, particularly in the real estate industry, with exposure to the US market advantageous.
• Leadership experience in managing a small team of skilled analysts.
• Exposure to US or European clients and managing offshore teams beneficial.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
