Job Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day technical operations of vessels and bulk carriers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Operations Oversight
  • Ensure vessel seaworthiness at all times
  • Track vessel reports promptly and analyze performance/defects to ensure prompt and effective closures
Performance Monitoring and Improvement
  • Monitor PMS compliance and authenticity, proposing database and system improvements as needed
  • Prepare annual budgets and control operating costs, including fuel, lubes, and consumables
Certification and Documentation Management
  • Maintain validity of all certification and documentation
  • Liaise with classification societies and flag authorities as necessary
Inspections and Audits
  • Prepare vessels for inspections and ensure readiness
  • Monitor speed and consumption performance, implementing efficiency improvements as needed
Compliance and Quality Control
  • Ensure compliance with international regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS), and all flag requirements
  • Coordinate procurement of spares and critical equipment with cost-effective options
Project Management
  • Plan and supervise dry-docking, repairs, technical projects, including upgrades/retrofits and major maintenance
  • Prepare specifications, timelines, ensuring quality control during repairs and maintaining cost control
Technical Guidance and Training
  • Support onboard crew with technical guidance and training, including new equipment
  • Conduct periodic physical inspection of vessel for assessment of condition, crew, and systems
Incident Investigation and Improvement
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions, proposing improvement in procedures and manuals as needed
Safety Culture and Environmental Protection
  • Promote a strong safety culture on board and in technical operations
  • Ensure compliance with environmental protection measures and fuel efficiency initiatives

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, or machinery failures, and implement corrective actions

Requirements

  • 10-12 years of experience in the shipping industry on large sea-going vessels with an international trading experience and a minimum of 2 years sailing experience as a Chief Engineer
  • Preferably at least 2 years of shore experience as a Superintendent
  • Experience working on cranes and grabs for bulk carriers
  • Work experience on ME engines preferred
