Job Description:

Eligibility criteria for registering as a portfolio manager with SEBI include:

  • The applicant must be a corporate entity
  • The applicant requires necessary infrastructure, such as office space, equipment and personnel
  • The applicant shall appoint a compliance officer
  • The principal officer of the applicant has:
  • A professional qualification in law, finance, accountancy, business management or CFA certification
  • At least five years of experience in related activities within the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advisory services, research analysis or fund management

Provided that at least two years of relevant experience is in portfolio management or investment advisory services or areas related to fund management.

  • The principal officer has obtained NISM XXI-B certification
    • In addition to the principal officer and compliance officer, the applicant has at least one employee who is a graduate and has two years of experience in related activities within the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advisory services, research analysis or fund management. If this employee is a fund manager, they must possess the same qualifications, experience and certifications as the principal officer.
    • The applicant meets capital adequacy requirements, with a minimum net worth of Rs. 5 crores
    • Net worth calculation: Paid-up equity capital + free reserves (excluding reserves created out of revaluation) - Accumulated losses - Deferred expenditure not written off
    • Net worth requirements under PMS are separate from capital adequacy requirements for each activity undertaken by the applicant
    • The applicant, its directors, principal officers, compliance officers or employees are not involved in any litigation or convicted of offences involving moral turpitude
    • The applicant is a fit and proper person, meeting criteria outlined in Schedule II of the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008
    • Granting a certificate to the applicant is in the best interest of investors
    • Application Form A must be filed with SEBI, accompanied by a fee
    • Fee structure includes application fees, registration fees and renewal fees to maintain registration
