Job Description

This role involves managing a category of products to deliver strong business performance. The Category Manager will be responsible for developing, managing, and driving the category to meet customer needs.

The Category Manager will work closely with various teams to ensure seamless execution of category initiatives. They will develop and implement the category strategy in line with customer needs, market trends, and company objectives.

They will also track and analyze category performance, market share, and competitor activity. The Category Manager will identify, negotiate, and onboard vendors/suppliers for the category.

They will design the product assortment, including core, seasonal, and promotional lines. The Category Manager will ensure the right product mix is available across stores and channels.

They will drive margin improvement through effective sourcing and cost negotiations. The Category Manager will monitor sales, inventory, and stock turnover, ensuring optimal stock levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and implement the category strategy.
    • Plan assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies.
    • Track and analyze category performance.
  • Buying & Vendor Management:
    • Identify, negotiate, and onboard vendors/suppliers.
    • Negotiate terms including pricing, margins, credit, and delivery schedules.
  • Merchandising & Assortment:
    • Design the product assortment.
    • Ensure the right product mix is available.
  • Financial & Business Management:
    • Drive margin improvement.
    • Monitor sales, inventory, and stock turnover.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with SCM for demand planning and replenishment.
    • Partner with Marketing for promotional campaigns and product launches.

  • Strong Analytical Skills:

  • Negotiation Expertise:
    • Vendor management expertise.
  • Understanding of Retail Landscape:
    • Indian hypermarket/retail landscape.
  • Customer-Centric Approach:
    • Ability to anticipate trends.
  • Planning & Execution Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and category management tools.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Graduate or Postgraduate Degree: In Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field.
  • Experience: 6-10 years in buying/category management, in General Merchandise or related categories.
  • Hypermarket Experience: A must.
