Job Title: Intellectual Property Head

The ideal candidate will be a graduate with a postgraduate or doctoral qualification in Engineering, holding a specialization in Mechanical, Electronics, Automotive, or Material Science.

A strong additional certification is the World Intellectual Property Organization Diploma of International Patent Practice (WON), WIPO DL101, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and Qualified Patent Agent Exam. This will be an advantage.

The selected individual must have at least 18 years of experience in this field.

Purpose of the Role:

  • Review New Product Development (NPD) designs to identify potential areas for intellectual property legal risk and plan IP checks to mitigate and strengthen the culture of technology/NPD through IP.
  • Develop search strategies and conduct searches for Freedom to Operate (FTO), Statement of Allowance (SOA), invalidation, opposition, litigation, etc.
  • Perform advanced technology and analysis, including competitive intelligence analysis and design IP protection of transportation design and engineering across business clusters.

Role Description:

  • Drive IP culture by reviewing designs for IP and initiating actions to de-risk designs/products (current and future).
  • Conduct patent/competitor portfolio analysis for patent literature as well as non-patent literature and leverage tools like information technology and data analytics for effective search and analysis of IP.
  • Conduct state-of-the-art analyses as required and work closely with IP attorneys, legal associates, and close IP FTO opinion reports in a timely manner. Review and recommend FTO decisions for IP tests.
  • Plan and conduct Bill of Materials (BOM) FTO reviews for NPD at the product level across automotive technology domains, implement best-in-class practices, standardize processes, and enhance productivity through digitalization. Periodically sign off IP test plans with design teams.
  • Release periodic IP alerts - review and dispose concerns from stakeholders, effectively build conviction with stakeholders, and manage projects/business clusters independently.
  • Plan, conduct FTO (Freedom to Operate), state-of-the-art search analyses on Long-Range Planning/advanced technology, and trigger timely protection of all forms of IP across major global jurisdictions.
  • Be well-versed with industry best practices and state-of-the-art tools for IP searches and perform searches across multiple jurisdictions. Plan and carry out searches for SOA, FTO, litigation, and invalidation/opposition searches in liaison with legal associates.
  • Review and resolve claim interpretation issues in FTO with stakeholders, liaise with legal teams for effective disposal. Maintain confidentiality of IP matters, systematically docket records, and best-in-class IP culture.

Candidates with a qualification in IP Law and a WON certificate will be given preference.
