Key Role Overview

This position is a critical component of an engineering team, holding a senior project work focus on production and liaison with colleagues. The successful candidate will mentor and coach junior members of the team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Feasibility Reports: Develop detailed reports to meet client requirements, reviewing with the Senior Structures Lead.
  • Design Specifications: Work with the team to create design specifications compliant with employer needs, agreeing format and content, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Scope of Works: Collaborate with the Senior Structures Lead to define and monitor scope of works.
  • Building Requirements: Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with colleagues to facilitate detailed design.
  • Detailed Design: Carry out detailed design as per client requirements, incorporating standard codes, QA, and technical review.
  • Calculations and Co-ordination: Review and monitor production of calculations, including QA, technical reviews, and sign off.
  • Project Costing: Ensure accurate information for project costing preparation, completing details to deadlines, and informing the team about design progress.
  • Contract Documents: Coordinate project contracts documents (drawings and specifications), reviewing input from team members.
  • Design Process: Lead the design process, encouraging the team to deliver effective solutions within agreed timelines.
  • Document Control: Follow document control and QA processes, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence are issued and filed correctly, coaching junior staff in their usage.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of Engineers and Revit Technicians.

Essential Competencies / Skills:

Required Qualifications
  • Proven Experience: Proven experience in designing Building Structures, ideally in a similar role or demonstrating a strong track record.
  • Presentation Skills: Good presentation skills are required.
  • Technical Software: Must be fully conversant with structural software, such as RAM, CSC, ETABS, SAFE, and STAAD.
  • Microsoft Office: A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project is essential.
  • Languages: Must be fluent in English, with an excellent understanding of technical terminology.
  • Management Skills: Demonstrate good management, communication, and technical skills, capable of working within a team and independently as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required, along with membership to an accredited engineering body.
  • British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent is desirable.
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience is preferred.
